Canyonlands. For nature photographers these names conjure images of
fantastical shapes
and magical light, of mysterious landscapes and dramatic scenery.
Arches and Canyonlands are two of the premier National Parks
for the landscape photographer. Here's a chance As light is often the key to great landscape photos, we'll
be spending much of our time at the edge of light during the minutes
surrounding sunrise and sunset. We'll use the middle of the day for classroom and critique sessions, scouting for more sunrise and sunset shots, resting, or just plain exploring. |
![]() One of the most famous sites in the park, Turret Arch through the North Window, will definitely be on our list of places to photograph. |

This is a field workshop,
therefore we'll be spending
much of the time in the field and that's where
we'll do the majority of teaching. We do try to get in at least one or two group critique/classroom sessions as time and facilities allow.
Since there are so many opportunities and so many great scenes with easy access, this workshop won’t involve too much hiking. But never fear, we’ll employ other means to exhaust you. We do plan on visiting Delicate Arch. This hike is about 3 miles round trip with 480 feet of elevation gain. And we'll probably also make the short hikes to places like Landscape Arch and Sand Dune Arch. |
![]() About traveling spouses Non-photographing spouses and companions are more than welcome at any of
our workshops. Occasionally we won't be able to accommodate them in all
activities due to space constraints. |

Our goal is to help you
create photographs that are uniquely your own and to help you develop your
own style. To
that end, we’ll be encouraging you to stretch beyond what you’re used to
doing and to look for perspectives, angles and compositions that are
expressions of your own view of the world. The workshop begins the evening of the 18th for introductions and orientation. The workshop ends after the morning shoot on the 22nd. |

Lodging:
We've made a group arrangement
at the Best Western Canyonlands Inn in Moab (435-259-2300). Upon registration your name will be added to the hotels list. All you'll need to do is pay upon arrival. There are other options in town
including a
Motel 6. If you're camping, there are a
couple of RV campgrounds right in Moab: If you choose another lodging option, please let Don know. Trip Insurance: We understand that sometimes folks need to make last minute cancellations due to illness, family, or business matters. Unfortunately, we are unable to make last minute refunds or provide credit to future workshops due to these last minute cancellations. We therefore highly recommend trip insurance. |
